Pleiades

A Pleiades poem has a simple and fun structure. It always has seven lines, and the title is a single word. Each line of the poem must begin with the same letter as the first letter of the title. The poem usually describes or connects to the word in the title.

Example

Train

Ticket to a treasure-trove of memories
Traveling through a tapestry of scenery
Trudging and trundling over tough terrain
Tirelessly towing tourists and boxcars full of freight
Tooting horn in tunnels, tippy-toeing through sleepy towns
Tickling childhood fancy with a comfortable chug, chug
Think I can, think I can, the wheels sing round and round

The Pleiades is a short form that encourages creativity and focus on one idea. It’s fun to try with different letters or themes — from objects to emotions to places.

This form was created by poet Craig Tigerman.
