Mobius Poem

A Mobius poem has six or more lines that switch back and forth between two types of lines:

The poem keeps alternating between those two kinds of lines — one statement, one list, one statement, and so on.

The name “Mobius” comes from the idea of a loop — you can read the poem from start to finish, and it flows back to the beginning again, just like a Mobius strip.

Example

To Warm Winter Nights

languishing beneath gray cloud
crisp, cold, silent, afternoon
horizon blurs and shadows to
slate, charcoal, onyx, evening
settles relentlessly colder
fierce, sterile, deathly, often
withering stoutest hearts
numbed, forsaken, beguiled, later
steeped warm by wassail
spicy, giddy, feverish, moments
with friends’ camaraderie
embracing, sparkling, adoring, forever
joined kindred souls dispel
barren, blanched, muffled, winter

- written by Celtic~Soul

Each list line ends with a time word like “day,” “night,” or “forever.” The last word of the entire poem should connect back to the title — so it feels like the poem can loop forever.

born in optimism and ever obstinate
brooding, pouting, determined, morning
child expectant with immortal aspiration,
fantasy, desire, choice, midday
a spiteful equalizer — heat sears heart’s desire
blunting, discomfit
