Palindrome

A palindrome is a word, phrase, or sentence that reads the same backward and forward. For example, the word “Madam” is a palindrome.

In poetry, a palindrome uses this same idea — but with lines or ideas that reverse in order. The second half of the poem mirrors the first half, often with reversed phrases or meanings. It can be short and simple, or long and complex.

A palindrome poem is like a reflection in a mirror — one side reverses the other. Writing one challenges you to think carefully about rhythm, word choice, and symmetry.
